How to setup your access to our News Server

Start Outlook Express
Click on Tools at the top
Click on Accounts near the bottom of the drop down menu.
Click on the Add button on the right side then News.
Enter Nick name or even use your Name. It is a good idea to guarded about your name and email address with newsgroups as using them when posting may attract unsolicited email (SPAM) later on.
Click Next an then enter a email address. Using a bogus (i.e. Nospam@nospam.com) email address here will help prevent SPAM. Another good idea is to use a hotmail or yahoo email address. That way you could easily create another if the one used gets overloaded with SPAM.
Click Next
Enter reader.news.telstra.net as the news server, then click next.
Then click Finish.

Your news account is set-up and ready to be accessed. It will need to download the index of all the available newsgroups. Last count had it about 30000 or so.

Some guidelines to follow when posting on Newsgroups:

1. Don't advertise in  newsgroups unless its to specific newsgroups that allows advertisement postings

2, Do not slander or abuse anyone. Be courteous when you can  and be ready to accept a different point of view. Plenty of them out there.

3. Only post relevant subjects in the appropriate newsgroups. ie. Don't post a question about cooking  in the automotive newsgroup.

4. Do not cross-post to multiple newsgroups unless its to subject connected groups. There are many different cooking type newsgroups. Posting a question on cooking to all of these cooking groups is acceptable.
