Step 2 - Start Page

You may also want to set the start page to www.omninet.net.au

To set the Start Page for Internet Explorer ,

  • Left click on the START (bottom left ) button, then click on Settings,  then Control Panel ,then double left click on the Internet Options icon.
  • Under the General Tab (first tab on the top left), you will see a box to type your start page address. At the moment it might say http://home.microsoft.com or something else, delete this and type in www.omninet.net.au and then left mouse click on the OK Button at the bottom.

Step 3 - E-Mail Setup (Outlook Express)

OK, now we are close to the end of the setup. All we have to do now is to setup your email. In most cases, the computer you have, will already have an icon called Outlook Express on the Desktop. If there isn't one, then left click on the Start Button (extreme left button on your taskbar), Programs in the menu and then it should in the Programs menu or in a sub-folder under it called Internet Explorer.

  • Double left click on the Outlook Express icon.
  • If this is the first time you have started up Outlook Express, it should present to you a window, asking you for the default folder, where to store your email. Just use the suggested folder by choosing Yes at the bottom of that window.
  • Now Left mouse click on Tools at the top of the Outlook Express window.
  • Left mouse click on Accounts in the menu.
  • The Internet Accounts window will pop up.
  • Left mouse click on the Add button on the right side of this window, then left mouse click on mail on the small menu that slides out from this button.
  • The first question, the email account configuration wizard asks for, is your name.
  • You can use you own name or if is the whole family that is using the email account, use some thing like The Smith Family for example.
  • When you have typed in the name, then left mouse click on the Next button at the bottom of this window.
  • Now put in your email address, which is your login name followed immediately after with @omninet.net.au For example. Mr Smith selected jsmith as a login name, so his email address is jsmith@omninet.net.au
  • Then left mouse click on the Next button at the bottom of this window.
  • You have to now type in the Incoming and Outgoing mail server names. Type mail.omninet.net.au in the Incoming POP3 box and smtp.omninet.net.au in the outgoing smtp box.
  • Then left click on next at the bottom again.
  • This screen will ask you to ensure that you're username and password is in the appropriate boxes.
  • You will already see your username, just type in your password underneath, then hit next.
  • On this next screen, just hit next as it suggests already to use mail.omninet.net.au as a name for the account. You may want to change if you like.
  • Now comes a screen, which may or may not appear for some computers. If at this stage you are faced with a  screen congratulating you on completing the email setup, then click Finish and then the  Close button and then close Outlook Express and skip the rest o these instructions.
  • Choose "Connect using a phone line", and then hit next.
  • If the next screen asks for which ISP to connect through, then choose where its says "Use an existing Internet service provider" and ensure that Omninet is selected in the list below. Now this list might only consist of Omninet, but on some computers, there maybe others in the list as well. If Omninet is the only Dial Up profile in Dial Up networking, then it may skip this whole window as it assumes already, that you are using the only Dial up profile being, Omninet.
  • The next window will give you the congratulations on finishing the setup of your email account, just Click Finish at the bottom and then click on the  Close button at the bottom of the window. Close Outlook Express. When you connect to Omninet next, start Outlook Express up and it will automatically look for email on the Omninet Email server and if there is any, it will then download it and put it in your Inbox (in Outlook Express), for you to read

You can also use these same instructions for setting up your Newsgroups, but where it says to click the add button and then mail, instead click on add and then News. The rest of the instructions are much the same as the email setup. the News group server is news.per.paradox.net.au and you won't need to put in any login details such as username and password as the server is open to all our customers.

Just word of warning about newsgroups, if you decide to post a message to a newsgroup and you have your real email address setup in the news browser (Outlook Express), the email address may be picked up by other people and then added to a database. What this may result in, is you getting unsolicited email (spam) from anybody that is trying to sell something. To avoid this problem, instead of using your real email address, use a bogus address like nospam@ nospamland.com.

If you have problems, check your setting again. If you continue to have problems connecting, ring 1300 735 204.

Dialling and connecting

Double Click on the Internet or Internet Explorer Icon or the Omninet Shortcut on your Desktop

You will see a Connect window pop up.

Please type in your Login/username name and password in the appropriate places and once you are ready, click the connect button or just Enter on your keyboard.

After about 30 seconds, it will minimise to show your Internet icon, on your taskbar (two green overlapping TV screens), usually bottom right, next to your clock. Now, if you haven't already, click Internet Explorer to web surf or click Outlook Express to send or receive email.

One of the most common problems when clients try to connect to the internet is that they type in their password unaware that their Caps Lock light is on. So where they think they are typing in the password in lower case letters, they are in fact typing it in as upper case. Please ensure that the caps lock is off when typing in the password.
