His Eye Is on the Sparrow
We should not always expect to eat cake. Sometimes our fare will be “the bread of affliction.” And in such hours it is well to remember the constant concern that a loving Heavenly Father has for His own.

Jesus put it like this:

“Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?”

Think of it! Five sparrows for about ¼ a cent. Judging from the price, sparrows are not worth a great deal. But Jesus emphasizes that not one of them is forgotten before God. Then our Lord gently reminds us:

“Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.” (Luke 12:7)

The beautiful old spiritual base of this Scripture says:

His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He cares for me.

Two Christians were once speaking of their experiences, and one said, “It’s terribly hard to trust God and realize His hand in the dark passages of life.” “Well, brother, if you cannot trust a man out of your sight, he is not worth much; and if you cannot trust God in the dark, it shows that you do not trust Him at all.”

My dear reading friends, in the valleys which we experience through disappointments, failures, or pains in life, it is crucially important for us to know that God really cares for us. Sometimes this is hard to feel and therefore when our feelings are what we are depending upon, we become unsure that God is personally concerned about us. So it is imperative that we believe the right things. Therefore, I hope you can develop a strong faith in the act that God cares about you, and that He demonstrates His care by keeping His promises to us.

If you would like a copy of a small booklet that can strengthen your faith in God, I’d be happy to send you one.
