Before Muhammad’s sudden death in AD 632, he was successfully subduing the Arab world at the point of a sword. He took on the characteristics of a general and a conquering ruler even while proclaiming the doctrine of surrender to God. Muhammad built his kingdom with a sword. Jesus won His kingdom by surrendering to death on a cross. Centuries later when Salman Rushdie wrote “The Satanic Verse,” Ayatollah Khomeini, leader of the Iranian revolution and the target of a fiercely satirical portrait in the novel, responded by issuing a denunciation of Rushdie called a fatwa: "I inform all zealous Muslims of the world that the author of the book entitled The Satanic Verses-which has been compiled, printed and published in opposition to Islam, the Prophet, and the Qumran-and all those involved in its publication who were aware of its content, are sentenced to death. I call on all zealous Muslims to execute them quickly, wherever they may be found, so that no one else will dare insult the Muslim sanctities. God willing, whoever is killed on this path is a martyr.” Friends, this Muslim mission began centuries ago in the Middle East as it spread its message into Arabia and beyond through Jihad, preaching, and diplomacy. Recently, the former Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid, a Muslim scholar known for his message of tolerance said, “There is an effort by Islamic extremists to convert Christians to Islam.” Today, the world’s largest Muslim training centre is located in New York City. Disciples of Allah are working and praying for the Islamic conversion of the western world, especially in America, where they are actively engaged in many inner cities and college campuses. Their evangelistic successes can be measured by the countless name changes among America’s high profile athletes. Islam’s growth over the last two decades can be attributed largely to the discovery of oil in the Islamic world. Today these revenues are being poured into Islamic evangelism. Mosques are being built worldwide, activists are being hired, books and pamphlets are being printed, and television and radio time are being purchased. Those who embrace Islam are well financed. Among those supported are the numerous extremist Islamic groups who wage Jihad against those whom they label as infidels. Friends, as Jesus was a Jewish descendant of Abraham through Isaac, Muhammad was an Arab descendant of Abraham through Ishmael. As Jesus before him, Muhammad confronted a generation that had lost touch with its ancestral roots. Both told their followers to make the ultimate sacrifice for God-both described a war that was being fought for the hearts and minds of lost and empty people. Both made promises. Muhammad promised immortality to those who die as martyrs for Allah. Jesus offered paradise to a poor criminal on a cross…and everyone thereafter who carries the cross of self-denial and lives for Him. As I see it, friends, it is a settled and assured Biblical principle that certain past events project themselves into the future and form the pattern and mould for prophetic events. But the battleground has not changed. It’s still in your heart and mind. However, only JESUS, not Muhammad, can provide us with real peace. Today, I want to leave each of you with one final thought. There are over 300 prophecies in the Old Testament pointing to Jesus-and all have been fulfilled. Mathematicians have calculated that if there were only 50 prophecies about Jesus, the probability of all 50 being fulfilled is more than eleven hundred and twenty-five million to one. So the fact that over 300 such prophecies about JESUS have all been fulfilled is the reason you can place your full confidence in JESUS CHRIST.
