Symmons grammar commences from this page at paragraph(12). He bases his grammar around the standard Latin grammar of his time. In inflected languages such as Noongar and Latin suffixes added to the end of words indicate the case of a noun. Where 'case' means the noun's relationship to the rest of the sentence.Thus genitive means what is today called possessive case for which English uses the apostrophe 's suffix (e.g Tom's). The dative case in Latin is the equivalent of the word 'to' in English as in 'give to' or 'going towards'. As can be seen below, Noongar distinguishes these two kinds of actions.
