Canons of Dort FRC.TIF (78284 bytes)

The third of our doctrinal standards, Cannons of Dort, also called the Five Articles against the Remonstrants.

The Synod of Dort, 1618-1619, was concerned by the serious disturbance in the Reformed Churches caused by the rise of Arminianism. Arminius, a theological professor, departed from the reformed faith concerning five important points.

  1. Election on the ground of foreseen faith.
  2. Universal atonement.
  3. Partial depravity.
  4. Resistable grace
  5. Perserverance of the saints

The Cannons point out the error and the Reformed doctrine on each of these five points.
