The Free Reformed Church of Albany was instituted on 14th December 1952 with the co-operation of the Council of Armadale. Three brothers were ordained as elders and that was the official beginning of the Church in Albany. The first recorded statistics for church membership show that in 1954 there were 50 baptised and 77 communicant members, a total of 127.

Services were initially held in the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Earl Street. When this became to small, services were held in the Methodist Church in Duke Street. In 1956 the Town Hall became the place of worship. By the end of 1956 the congregational members had bought a block of land on Beaufort Road and had finished building a small 2 room school. It was possible to convert this to one room and every Saturday the school would be made ready for the Sunday worship services. By 1962 the congregation had grown to 223 members. Building plans for a church building were made in 1963 and on the 27 June 1964 the building was complete.

On the 12th June 1955, Rev van Gurp was ordained as the first minister for the church at Albany and remained till 1964.

Rev Wielenga was installed as minister on 13 March 1966 and remained till 1978.

Rev Joose was installed as minister on 28th June 1981 and remained till 1983.
