 Spoonbill Classic Sudoku  2.0

Released April 2006 (1.20 MB)

Spoonbill Classic Sudoku is for Sudoku addicts from novice to expert. Solve a puzzle exactly as you would on paper or get a little help in a sticky situation. Spoonbill Classic Sudoku lets you choose how much help you require, none, a little or a lot.

The Sudoku grid of rows and columns is also divided into 3 x 3 boxes. The aim of the game is to fill each row, column and 3 x 3 box with numbers 1 to 9. You cannot repeat a number within a row, column or 3 x 3 box and you can't change the numbers already in the cells. No mathematical skill is required. Nothing has to add up to anything else. All you need is a little cool-headed logic to figure the solution.

With Spoonbill Classic Sudoku you can:

Enter a puzzle from a newspaper, magazine or book.
Import a puzzle from an external source.
Export your puzzles to various external formats.
Create random puzzles of graded difficulty.
Get help with inserting pencil marks.
Get help with identifying hidden singles and more complex relationships.
Get help step by step with the solution.
Completely solve the puzzle automatically.
Undo false steps right back to the start if necessary.
Print your puzzles onto paper in various formats.

If you're into Sudoku (also called Number Place in the USA) then Spoonbill Classic Sudoku is for you. Even if you've never heard of Sudoku before, once you've tried it, you're guaranteed to get hooked. And once you've used the program to solve your puzzles, you'll never want to go back to pencil and paper again. And you can throw away that old eraser!

The Broken Chessboard Puzzle  Requires DirectX

Released January 2006 (680 KB)

The Broken Chessboard Problem was first posed by the famous English puzzlist, H. E. Dudeney in his book "The Canterbury Puzzles and Other Curious Problems".

Although he only published a single solution to his problem, there are in fact 69 distinct solutions, excluding rotations and reflections. Your task is to find as many as you can. The 13 pieces must be placed into the frame to form the original chessboard. It is not sufficient to merely get all the pieces to fit into the frame, you must also have regard for the alternate black/white coloring of the chess board.

The computer version of this intriguing puzzle is also accompanied by a copy of the originally published problem No. 74 from Dudeney's puzzle book. Why not order your copy today? It's absolutely free!

 TangleWeb 1.0  Requires DirectX

Released November 2005 (850 KB)

TangleWeb is a game in which you must untangle a tangled web of points and lines so that no line is crossing another line. The game can be played in two different modes: Game mode where you play a series of levels, each level becoming more difficult than the previous level, and Single mode in which you try to untangle a single web in the shortest possible time. A third mode, Design mode allows you to design your own webs.

In Game mode you get points for completing each level, and additional bonus points which increase in direct proportion to the speed in which you untangled the web. In other words, the faster you untangle a web, the more bonus points you get. At the start of each new level, you get additional bonus time, but if you let the bonus time run out, the game ends. The game also ends after you have untangled the last level. At the end of the game, if your score is good enough, you will  be entered into the TangleWeb Top Ten.

In Single mode, you play against the clock and statistics are recorded for each web solved.

This is an intriguing game based on planar graphs and can become very addictive.
