Be Careful Where You Place Your Trust
Friend, perhaps you have heard the story of "Lucky." According to some recent news reports, Lucky is a German shepherd guide-dog for the blind, who has so far been responsible for the deaths of all four of his previous owners.

The dog trainer said in this news report, "We will not have him put [to sleep]. Lucky is basically a good guide dog. He just needs a little brush-up on some elementary skills, that's all. I admit it's not an impressive record on paper. He led his first owner in front of a bus, and the second off the end of a pier. He actually pushed his third owner off a railway platform just as the [train] was approaching and he walked his fourth owner into heavy traffic, before abandoning him and running away to safety. But, apart from epileptic fits, he has a lovely temperament. And guide dogs are difficult to train these days."

When he was asked if Lucky's fifth owner would be told about his previous record, the dog trainer said, "No. It would make them nervous, and it would also make Lucky nervous. And when Lucky gets nervous he's liable to do something silly."

Well, maybe it's just me, but it seems to me that if I'm going to trust my life to a dog, I would prefer a dog that has proved himself to be reliable over the years. I really don't care to entrust my life to an animal that has failed four other people.

I also feel the same way about religion - even stronger. Because if I'm going to entrust my spiritual well-being, my eternal soul, to someone, it's going to have to be someone who has proved himself reliable over the years. I really don't care to entrust my soul to someone who has failed other people. Only those who have proven themselves faithful are worthy of our trust.

That's why the God who invites us to believe in him knew that he must first prove himself dependable. The Bible, is among other things, a record of the promises that God has made to his people and his faithfulness in keeping them.

In Peter's second letter, chapter 1, verses 3-4, he wrote, "God will give you, through his great power, everything you need for living a truly good life: ….. And by that same mighty power he has given us all the other rich and wonderful blessings he promised;"

Today, friend, I'd like you to reflect on the faithfulness of God, and I hope you will be encouraged to understand that you can trust God completely, and you will be assured that he will keep his promises to you.

However, if you really want to make contact with God … but can't seem to find him. I think I can help. I certainly want to. That's why I'm making available a small booklet titled "How to find God".
